Milton Seniors to Benefit from Easier Driver’s License Renewal in Ontario

Milton, ON | January 20th, 2025 – The Ontario government is making it simpler for seniors aged 80 and over to safely stay behind the wheel by introducing a more convenient process for renewing their drivers’ licenses. Starting February 3, 2025, drivers in this age group will be able to complete mandatory vision and cognitive screening assessments and renew their drivers’ licenses in a single visit at Milton ServiceOntario Centers located in 55 Ontario St, Milton Mall and 2800 High Point Dr Suite 200. By the end of Spring 2025, this service will be available at all ServiceOntario locations across the province.

“Ontario’s seniors deserve a convenient and accessible way to renew their drivers’ licences, ensuring they can stay connected to their communities,” said Todd McCarthy, Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement. “Reaffirming Ontario’s commitment to enhancing customer service and supporting the needs of seniors, this new streamlined process eliminates the need for seniors to visit multiple locations, cutting wait times, expanding access to essential services, and creating a more inclusive and efficient system across the province.”

Previously, seniors aged 80 and over had to complete their vision and cognitive screening at one location before proceeding to a ServiceOntario centre to finalize their renewal. With this new streamlined approach, seniors will receive a renewal notice approximately 90 days before their licence expires, guiding them to book an appointment either online or by phone. At their scheduled visit, they will be able to complete all necessary assessments in a single trip and, if eligible, renew their licence immediately.

"Ensuring that our seniors in Milton can easily access essential services with greater ease is a priority for me," said Zee Hamid MPP for Milton Riding. "This improved process means fewer trips, reduced wait times, and a more convenient way for seniors to stay mobile and independent. By cutting red tape and simplifying renewal requirements, we are making life easier for our residents."

“From eliminating costs for licence plate renewals, freezing fees for testing, and banning road tolls, our government is helping Ontario drivers keep more of their hard-earned money.” said Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation. “Today’s change complements our historic investment in new roads, bridges and highways as another way we’re working to make life more convenient for seniors and all drivers.”
