Milton’s Largest Energy Efficiency Program Launch
The Ontario government is proud to announce the launch of a historic $10.9 billion, 12-year investment in energy efficiency programs. These programs will directly support the constituents in Milton Riding to save money for their families and their businesses while reducing energy demand across the province
The new Home Renovation Savings Program, available starting January 28, 2025, will support thousands of families in Milton Riding, offering rebates of up to 30% for energy-efficient home renovations.
“These new Energy Efficiency Programs accessible to all Milton Riding residents will lower energy bills, allow for more megawatts into Ontario’s energy grid, and ultimately put more money back into the pockets of the people in our community,” said Zee Hamid, Member of Provincial Parliament for Milton Riding. “While the previous Liberal government skyrocketed energy prices, our government is strategically offering an approach that ensures affordability remains at the forefront. I’ve spoken to so many of our constituents and they have been asking for energy efficiency programs that can support cost savings for their families. This is the most ambitious initiative of its kind in Canadian history and I’m proud that it’s now available to our community.”
The Home Renovation Savings Program includes rebates for upgrades such as:
· New windows and doors
· Insulation and air sealing
· Heat pumps and smart thermostats
· Rooftop solar panels and battery storage systems
Later in 2025, the program will expand to include energy-efficient appliances like refrigerators and freezers, providing even more opportunities for savings.
Affordable Energy for All Ontarians
“As the demand for electricity continues to rise, we’re giving families and small businesses more ways to save money and energy as we launch the largest energy efficiency program in Canadian history,” said Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Electrification. “Ontario’s new Home Renovation Savings Program will put more money back into the residents of Milton Riding, covering up to 30 per cent of the costs on energy efficiency products.”
By 2036, the program aims to cut the province’s peak energy demand by 3,000 MW—the equivalent of removing three million homes from the grid. This reduction is estimated to save ratepayers $12.2 billion in electricity costs while supporting 14 energy efficiency programs, including the popular Retrofit Program for businesses.
A Streamlined Process for Greater Accessibility
The new program simplifies access through a single portal, allowing Ontarians to seamlessly apply for rebates regardless of their energy source—electricity, natural gas, propane, or oil. Small businesses will also benefit from the expanded Peak Perks program, offering financial incentives for installing smart thermostats.
Ontario’s Energy Future
The Independent Electricity System Operator has forecasted that electricity demand will increase by 75 per cent by 2050 – the equivalent of four and a half cities the size of Toronto. This highlights the growing need for affordable and sustainable solutions to energy consumption. Expanding energy efficiency programs is just one step in the province’s larger strategy to meet this demand while supporting affordability.
