Milton is Receiving $8.4 Million to Support Housing Growth
The Ontario government is strengthening Milton’s housing infrastructure with an $8.4 million investment from the Building Faster Fund (BFF), ensuring that more homes are built for our community, and that essential infrastructure keeps up with rapid growth.
The work being done by the Town of Milton to build more homes shows that by working together, we can deliver results in building a bigger, better, stronger Ontario,” said Paul Calandra, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. “I applaud Milton for doing what it takes to make sure everyone in their community has an affordable place to call home. Our government will continue to give municipalities the tools they need to address the unprecedented population growth we’ve seen.”
Key Infrastructure Projects to Support Growth
In March 2024, Ontario provided $8.4 million from the Building Faster Fund to the Town of Milton for exceeding its 2023 housing target, breaking ground on a total of 1,952 new housing units last year. This vital investment will fund key infrastructure projects in Milton that enable new and existing housing developments, including:
Nipissing Road design phase to support multi-modal access for high-density housing.
Stormwater management pond upgrades to maintain and support housing expansion.
Urban storm sewer improvements to accommodate both existing and future developments.
Ontario Street rehabilitation, including storm sewer work and resurfacing, to manage increasing traffic.
A multi-use transportation pathway along Bronte Street to connect new communities to essential services.
Savoline Boulevard rehabilitation, improving a major connector road for growing neighborhoods.
Local Leaders Applaud the Investment
Local leaders are celebrating this investment as a crucial step forward in addressing Milton’s housing needs.
"This funding is more than just an investment in infrastructure—it’s an investment in families, in future homeowners, and in the long-term prosperity of our town,” said Zee Hamid, MPP for Milton Riding. “Milton is growing rapidly, and we need to ensure our roads, stormwater systems, and transit networks keep pace with that growth. These projects will not only support new developments but also improve the daily lives of residents who call Milton home.”
Announced in August 2023, the Building Faster Fund is a three-year, $1.2 billion initiative designed to help municipalities meet their housing targets by funding essential infrastructure. Milton’s success in exceeding its 2023 housing goal by 126.8% has secured this funding, supporting local growth and development.
The Ontario government remains committed to helping municipalities build the infrastructure needed to support housing demand. The Building Faster Fund is just one of many programs ensuring that communities like Milton continue to thrive and remain affordable for families and businesses.
