Milton Firefighters Receive $80,677.76 in Funding from the Province to Enhance Firefighter Safety
Milton, ON — Brilliant news for our community! The Town of Milton Fire Department has been awarded $80,677.76 in provincial grant funding through the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General’s Fire Protection Grant to support critical upgrades that enhance firefighter health, safety, and operational readiness.
The funding will support the purchase, installation, and implementation of two SCBA decontamination washing machines, a new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), and personal protective equipment (PPE). These investments strengthen cancer prevention practices and ensure firefighters have access to modern, reliable equipment that meets evolving safety standards.
As part of the second year of the Fire Protection Grant program, the province has doubled annual funding from $10 million to $20 million to better address emerging risks facing fire services across Ontario. The program provides municipal fire departments with resources to invest in cancer prevention initiatives, equipment to respond to lithium-ion battery fires, and infrastructure modernization.
The Ontario government has expressed a strong commitment to the safety and wellbeing of fire fighters.
“I am very pleased to see the support of our brave men and women in uniform,” said Zee Hamid, MPP of Milton.“ The Ontario government remains committed to the safety and wellbeing of fire fighters. It is imperative that concerns surrounding the safety, health and readiness are addressed in order to ensure the protection of fire fighters and ultimately, our communities.
The Fire Protection Grant is part of a broader three-year, $30 million provincial commitment focused on firefighter health, safety, and service modernization. Expanded funding in 2025–26 reflects the province’s response to emerging fire risks, including those associated with lithium-ion batteries.
MPP Zee Hamid recently visited the Milton Fire Station and met with Milton Fire Chief Peter Gatto to recognize this investment and the important work of local firefighters.
