MCRC Receives $393,300 OTF Grow Grant to Strengthen Support for Children and Families Through SNAP

‍ ‍

Milton, ON – On Tuesday June 9th, local MPP Zee Hamid met with the team at Milton Community Resource Centre (MCRC) to hear more about the $393,300 Grow grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) that was used to expand the Stop Now And Plan (SNAP) program, free programming that builds the emotional development and self-control of children with disruptive behaviors and provides their parents with techniques to support their child in the process. Over the next 3 years, SNAP will support more children and parents in Halton to develop the skills they need to thrive.

‍ ‍

“This $393,300 investment into the SNAP program is making a real difference by strengthening supports for children and families in Halton,” said Zee Hamid, MPP for Milton. “The program is giving children the tools to manage their emotions and equipping parents with practical strategies they can use every day at home. I am proud to support initiatives that build healthier, more resilient communities.”

‍ ‍

SNAP helps children manage impulsive and aggressive behavior by teaching them to stop, think, and plan positive alternatives. The program provides structured support for parents and caregivers to reinforce these strategies at home, creating a consistent and supportive environment for behavioral change. MCRC brought the program to Halton in 2024-the Grow Grant from OTF will allow us to continue to assist families over the next three years.

‍ ‍

“The group was realistic and really taught us things that we could implement with our son. I feel more confident in my parenting, and we have seen positive changes in him already and can’t wait to see how much better it can get,” said one SNAP Parent Participant, outlining the program’s goals.

‍ ‍

MCRC’s mission is to empower all citizens of Halton’s diverse community by providing programs and supports that are high quality, inclusive, accessible, and affordable, aimed to address the impacts of poverty and inequity.

‍ ‍

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested nearly $105M into 732 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
