Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz Awarded King Charles III Coronation Medal
Milton, ON — Ontario’s longest-serving mayor, Gordon Krantz, has been awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal, a prestigious national honour recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to Canada and their communities.
In a surprise presentation held on October 1 at Milton Town Hall, Milton MPP Zee Hamid presented the award to Mayor Krantz following a provincial announcement. The mayor was nominated for the honour by Premier Doug Ford in recognition of his remarkable six decades of public service.
“60 years is incredible. An incredible achievement, and it’s a record that I don’t think will ever be broken again,” said MPP Zee Hamid. “Having the honour to serve this community for 60 years as a councillor — 45 of those as mayor — speaks to an incredible commitment and sacrifice. Public service is not easy, and Mayor Krantz has led with dedication and integrity.”
Established by the Government of Canada, the King Charles III Coronation Medal commemorates the coronation of His Majesty and is awarded to 30,000 Canadians who have demonstrated exceptional service to their country, province, or community.
Mayor Krantz expressed surprise and gratitude upon receiving the medal:
“I just truly want to thank the premier for nominating me for this award — totally unexpected,” said Mayor Krantz. “I know that there are many individuals who have been recognized in our community and across the province, but as I say very cheekily, it’s hard to be humble when you’re perfect in every way.”
Mayor Krantz was first elected to Milton council in 1965 and has served as mayor since 1980, making him the longest-serving mayor in Ontario's history.
